Karen's Day at Shands

Karen wanted a place for family and friends to be able to see how she is doing each day at Shands. This is how she is making that happen.

post biopsy-1230 am on morning of Nov 5

November4

hi everyone,  the biopsy went wonderful.  I was so scared I couldn’t quit talking.  It was done by a PA named Aaron, and I have really come to trust her.  I can’t believe it.  I had zero pain.  This is not normal which makes it a miracle!!  I love God.  results in about 2-3 days.   saw the sunrise yesterday.  I ‘ve seen better but it was pretty good to see.  love everyone, Karen

    Karen,

I’m so glad your biopsy was painless! I’m going to continue praying for good results. Also, I wanted to let you know that if you get a package from someone you don’t know and it’s postmarked from Nebraska, it’s from an e-friend of mine! Just a little bit of something that I hope you will like. You’ll see it before I do so I hope you like it!

    Love,
    Tina

You still look gorgeous! I’m sure, as you said, having no hair, is very liberating. Enjoy not having to deal with washing, drying and curling it, for a little while anyway. Hang in their girlfriend, I know each day brings a unique experience; some not so good and some great! I’m praying for “great” results from your bone marrow biopsy. Thinking of and praying for you daily. Love you, Debra

    Hey Karen-

I like your new do, it really does show how pretty your face and eyes are. Wigs really can be alot of fun maybe one day you feel like a blonde and the next day maybe you are feeling like being a red head. I remember when my husband kevin began to loose his hair it was just as you said all over pillows, towels, bedding so we were driving around town one day and I pulled into a barber shop and he said what are we doing here, because truely he didnt realize the mess the hair was making and I said we are here to get you a new do. You are getting your head shaved today, he said oh , he had the most beautiful hair of any man it was like the hair in the salon books, but when it was gone he had the bigest most beautiful eyes. After the induction therapy his hair came back in and it was even more beautiful than his original hair if that was even possible. I really didn’t want to say before , dont ask me why but I am glad you did not experience any pain with your bone marrow this time and really and truely that is the way it is supposed to be every time. It just depends some Docs are better than others at doing it but if this person can do all of yours please see if you can request her. Kevin must have had 30 and only had pain on 1. I would like to give you a call but I don’t have any of your numbers if you can put it on here or maybe if you would rather email me at PryorRN@comcast.net. All the gang at work are praying for you daily we are always saying hey did you hear what Karen is doing today! And then someone usually says I prayed for this for her today. Believe this you have really brought the staff on the floor much closer to each other with your strength and courage we are much more humble, even though we deal with illness everyday. Well chickedee I hope to get to say hello soon on the phone and I will chat with you later. Love Ya, Leila

Karen, I love you sis and am praying constantly! I talk about you 24/7. I think I might have OCD! Maybe I always had it in a weird way. HAS ANYONE WANTED TO HELP SOMEONE, BUT NEVER TRUSTED ORGANIZATIONS…OR YOU JUST WANTED TO SEE SOMEONE RECEIVE IN NEED…WELL HERE IS YOUR CHANCE. Karen, I wanted to let your WORK BUDDIES know that Brandy McIver who is a nurse at Bay Medical is supposed to ask if anyone would like to help Karen out by donating EID (extended illness days) I believe you call them. I know that Karen will be fine…she has a ton of support, but as a sister I worry about finances…after all she does have 4 kids….two in college and two in school….one with braces and the other a TEENAGER. It would help to relieve. I will do all I can and if you need anything Karen…..let me know. Melisa and/or Crystal could bring it to you. God Bless you and all the support team of friends you have and have met. I love you girl!
