Karen's Day at Shands

Karen wanted a place for family and friends to be able to see how she is doing each day at Shands. This is how she is making that happen.

Today will be the last day in the old hospital

Don: The treatment has its ups and downs (I may have said that before) but there is a constant for Karen and it is one she doesn’t like. Her physical world consists of her room (with a view of a roof and the next building – no sky) and the hallways that she takes her short walks in. Today will be the last day in the old hospital. We will be going across the street; via a hallway that is literally a tunnel under the street; to the new hospital on Sunday. Every room has a view and we should have a better hallway for exercise. The rooms are supposed to be more like a hotel. We are both very excited and looking forward to this move.

I am excited for you. I have spent so much time in hospitals without a view. This will be like a breath of fresh air.Oh,I think you are a great looking woman hair or no hair. When it goes you will really look like a prickle pear. My friend had a butch hair cut,I told her it looked grat, but she didn’t like it.Grew so long she twins it round her head now like a crown.A great grey and silver one.Karen my dear sweet neice,I talked to our Father in Heaven and he loves you so much.I am asking for a complete cure and in my heart I really feel like I will have a yeah from Jesus. He knows you have more work to do for him. There is no greater work or service to Our Lord tht what you are already doing.Raising your family, and service to our fellows as a nurse.Just keep strong in your faith and we will lift you up every day. We all send our love and prayers,Deb Dan,Ryan and Chris…Bye for now Love ya… Auntie M

Last night Dad and I went to Wal-Mart and bought a bright pink wig for Karen in the costume department. We thought it would be fun for Halloween. When we came in the room she took off her knitted cap and she has the prettiest shaped head. She really is still very beautiful!!! It makes her look tiny and like my little girl again. What a beautiful woman even without hair. I’m going to see if Don can post the pictures. Surely she takes her exceptional looks after me. Don’t ya’ll think?!!! We also bought some crayons and colored pencils as well as something to color. Do you know how hard it is to buy coloring books for adults? Karen and I each colored on a page until she got tired. I’m now down in the computer room catching up on emails etc. Love to all.
