Karen's Day at Shands

Karen wanted a place for family and friends to be able to see how she is doing each day at Shands. This is how she is making that happen.

Another successful biopsy

November16

How do we define success when talking about a biopsy that happened only a few hours ago? IT DID NOT HURT!! The first one was tough and has made her worry about any future biopsy. Today was number 3 and that means the last two were good. Well, the drugs were good.

We will have prelimary results tomorrow and will, of course, pass on what we hear.

Glad this biopsy was not painful. Will be praying for good results and that you won’t feel too bad during the consolidation. I think it’s great that you’re ready to hit this “head on”. Take the lead and keep the upper hand. It will be hard not to be home for Thanksgiving, but there are many things to Give Thanks for.

    Hey Karen-

Glad you are getting biopsies that are not as difficult as the first! Did you try the bacon soda-salt water rinse for your mouth that I mentioned? I remember Kevin’s consolidation therapy, they always focused alot on keeping his mouth health, I am assuming so that he would keep a good appetite and to prevent the soreness that chemo can cause to the mouth. I donot remember him having very much trouble with the consolidation therapy the only thing that really sticks out was that he began to not sleep well, kinda of like some restless legs and such and the doc gave him alittle something for that. I remember that as the chemo was infusing we had to stay in the hospital, but like the days inbetween he might just have some normal saline running and we took the pump and the bag with us and took a few hours pass and left the hospital rode around I stopped at the car wash and washed the truck then we got some lunch and back to the hospital we went. It was nice just to get out a little. I do also remember that during consolidation, unlike induction, his blood counts took much longer to decline. Are you planning on getting some type of port for the transfusions and blood tests? I will say another prayer for you and your family, keep your chin up, you will be home again soon!
Do you have an address to where you are staying at the camper?
