Karen's Day at Shands

Karen wanted a place for family and friends to be able to see how she is doing each day at Shands. This is how she is making that happen.

Family reunion

July8

Don: As you may have noticed, we don’t post to www.KarensDay.com as frequently as we used to post. The routine is not that exciting or that fun. Please know that we appreciate all the notes and emails from the many site visitors and friends that are following Karen’s journey. There have been some tough days recently but we just keep moving forward.

Tuesday was a good day. Ginny, John, David, Michael, Trish and Brandon arrived. Laura and Kody came down on Wednesday and Darren will get here after work on Friday. Thursday at 4:00am brought the arrival of Heather, Randy, Jake and Dylan. Madeline and Ken are always with us. So we have the three sisters (Karen, Laura and Ginny) and all the cousins. We have a family reunion! We will all be together for a few days and are staying in a nice hotel. No way we could put all this group together at the camper!! Hurray for summer time.

    Don and Karen:

So glad you are having some fun and seeing family. Please remember that even though it may seem strange, your prayer warriors need to hear the bad with the good. That way we know better how to pray for you, so please don’t think that no one wants to hear the tough stuff. We’re on this journey with you (whether you planned on having people tag along or not — you’ve got us)! 🙂

Don, I cannot begin to tell you how much you are missed at BCAR. I don’t know about the staff, but I do know the REALTORS(R) – ha, you taught me to do that – anyway, the agents sure do miss your knowledge, patience, and expertise. But I know that’s selfish of me to say that – this is the time for you to be with Karen and I am glad that she has you!

Just an example though – I’ve listed a house in Callaway next door to Steve Hinman – and today an agent who works in my office went by to make sure things were good there because she’s doing an open house on Saturday. Well, it’s supposed to be vacant, the owners have moved out of town already. But there was a couple living there!! Last week they signed a lease and moved in – sent a check for $1500 to someone in New York and that person sent them keys to the house – all without the owners’ knowledge!! A Craig’s List scam! The police were called by the owner as soon as we told them what was going on and the “tenants” have 24 hours to move out according to the police. I feel bad for them because they thought it was legit! But … the sellers were in shock!

So much for the life of a real estate agent in 2010, huh? Just thought I would remind you why you really don’t want to go back to work anytime soon! I am going to call BCAR tomorrow – who ever pulled this scam also stole my lockbox off the front door. Maybe Nick can find out who used their key to open the shackle. Don’t you worry about it – I just thought you would get a kick out of hearing some of my ongoing drama!

Thinking of you both and keeping you in my prayers! Have fun – y’all deserve it! Keep us posted when you can. <3

We are so glad for you prayer warriors out there. Sometimes we are too weary to pray for ourselves. Even with our visiting family here, we can’t get away from frequent visits to Shands. Karen is unable to drink the fluids she needs to keep everything in balance, so she has to get IV fluids frequently. With the whole body radiation, Karen’s throat is too sore to drink adequate liquids to keep hydrated. When we can get the medicines regulated and get down to once a week visits to clinic, we will be doing good. Keep us in your prayers and we are grateful. God Bless!
