Karen's Day at Shands

Karen wanted a place for family and friends to be able to see how she is doing each day at Shands. This is how she is making that happen.

Happy Thanksgiving!

November26

Don: Today Karen, Ken, Madeline and me are going to be together. One of Karen’s friends from Panama City now lives less than an hour from where we are staying. She has invited us to share Thanksgiving with her family and friends. At the time I left the camper to head over to the country store and cafe that will be my new access point to the internet, they were still sleeping. I am not sure if we will be heading over there but it was very nice to get the invitation! No matter where we spend the day we are very thankful this year. We have received a lot of blessing in just the past 3 moths alone.

We hope that all of our friends that check in here at www.KarensDay.com know that we count each and every one of you as a blessing. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Dear Karen and Family: Reading this “journal” of both Karen’s and your experiences has been eye opening and inspiring. I have learned over the years that people and or experiences are put in your life for reasons unknown. But somehow, one day that person or experience teaches you a lesson about life and yourself. I am so glad that you decided to give people a chance to see what a patient and their family go through when there is a diagnosis such as leukemia! As a family you come together to get done what is needed to be done and I wish more people could see this amazing blessing in having a support system. I wish for all of you a day of thanks and love as you celebrate unlike you ever have before. Love, Nurse Leslie

What a true blessing friends are!!!! Crystal and her Mom, Patti, phoned us with an invitation to share Thanksgiving with them. Crystal has a beautiful, spacious home. It was good to share this time with long time friends. The food was superb and plenty of it. It was so relaxing watching the children play and we even made new friends. ( I enjoyed your company, Sue, my new friend). Fried Turkey, ham, old fashioned dressing and yummie pies and cookies. Thank you Crystal Patti and families for a wonderful, relaxing day!

Hi Karen, it’s been a long time since we’ve talked. I hope you felt well enough after all that chemo to enjoy your thanksgiving meal with family. The Karen I know from childhood is free spirited and strong minded, so don’t change a thing, your perfect the way you are. Maybe we’ll get together sometimes when your feeling like it. Tell Don and the kids I said hi.
    Take care
    Donna Mims
